The city rises on a basin, situated between the promontory of Baia Castle, Punta del Poggio, and Lake Miseno,on the place of an ancient Roman city called Bauli.
To the left of the beach there is Agrippina’s Tomb, the ruin in which historians wanted to recognize the sepulcher of Nero’s mother.
In truth, it is nothing but the cavea of a small Odeon, belonging to a maritime villa of Roman times.
The true sepulcher of Agrippina, killed by her son in a villa on Lake Lucrino, was probably destroyed with the construction of Baia Castle.
